Powerful Oxidizing System
Density is a Real Factor: The science of oxidation is literally about flooding more free oxygen atoms are the target area. The fact is that a liquid application gets more oxygen atoms to the target area than a gas treatment. The more oxygen atoms delivered means a much more rapid and effective process because liquids are more dense than gas in every case.
We're using the comparison of filling a pool with a 1/2 inch hose and a 4 inch fire hose. Which will fill the pool better? Yes, the 1/2 inch hose will eventually fill the pool, but the 4" hose will do it in a fraction of the time. In the end, the results may seem the same, but why wait? Water is water, so the end result may not be the any different, right? Maybe not....
The Ozone Smell
Now, let say that 1/2 inch hose was rotton and moldy. So, the water than comes out has a smell to it. The 4" inch hose delivers water without a lingering smell. When the Dutch scientist discovered ozone some 140 years ago, he called it "ozone". In his language, ozone meants "Smell or Scent". We all know that ozone has a distinct smell. It is better than the foul smell it treats, but the customer must still deal with the lingering odor from the ozone treatment.
Generally, the ozone smell will fade in 12-24 hours, but there is another fact about ozone. If there is an over-treatment with ozone, the ambient VOCs (gases call Volatile Organic Compounds) will be converted to an oxidized form. Since these are ambient gases, the odor is considered "embedded" and will remain for months. One common VOC is formaldehyde. When ozone tries to oxidize it, it is not neutralized; but becomes just another aldehyde. In short, ozone can be part of the problem if it is not properly applied.
PPM or Saturation
Another issue about ozone is the need to raise the ozone saturation level to something called "Shock Level" in the building. Technically, shock level happens at about 12 PPM (parts per million). So, the challenge is bringing in enough equipment to do this. Roughly speaking, that takes about 10,000 mg/hr per 1000 sq ft of treatment area. So, ozone services need to buy and maintain several ozone generator.
A spray solution can do the work of several ozone generators with one electrostatic sprayer. In fact, a large treatment area like a theater or school cannot be treated with ozone because of treatment area limitations. Because a sprayer can methodically cover nearly any size building with one or two sprayers.
Basically, if the goal is to oxidize environmental threats, the only question is which process works best.
